E'VE always been impressed with the quality of Georgina Howell's writing and research she authored the excellent In Vogue retrospectives on Vogue magazine and this tribute to Diana, Princess of Wales and her fashion and style is no exception. Official photographs from royal photographer Anwar Hussein and respected photojournalists are included. This is not a book quickly written to take advantage of posthumous interest in the princess: it is intelligent and insightful, following Diana's development from a shy 19-year-old to the icon she became at the time of her tragic and sudden death.
Many readers thought this book was fantastic and snapped it up on its launch in September. If you want this book, you'll have to order quickly as it's on back order at amazon.com.

ARBARA SUMMERS' Skin Deep is a long overdue book on modelling from a black perspective. Too often, the media and advertisers fail to present images of minorities, making modelling an even harder field to enter for black women. This book addresses these issues by going through the history of black women who have contributed to the fashion industry. An outstanding title.

HE may be turning 40, but she's still as hip and youthful as she always was. Barbie, the plastic fashion icon of our times, has remained a firm favourite amongst the young and the young at heart, with special editions fetching thousands of dollars or even more in toy-collector circles. This book, in its second revised edition, celebrates and covers Barbie's four decades (with an introduction by Barbie herself!) and perfect for Barbie collectors. It also does a very good job of charting the development of dolls' fashions and how they reflected their era for those who want to reminisce a little.

OLLOWING hard on the heels of Diana Dahlia's Models and Supermodels, a how-to book on starting in the modelling industry, comes Diana Rubinstein's The Modeling Life. While longer and more detailed than Ms Dahlia's title, it tends to be slightly more euphemistic although this doesn't undermine the book as a valuable resource for the aspiring model.
The difference in approach is clear: The Modeling Life is written by Seventeen's model editor, while Ms Dahlia's book comes from the experience of a former model. Both have their advantages. The Modeling Life is helped by interviews with professional young models and should be useful for both teenagers considering the career and their parents worried about this fast-paced industry.
